To shrink the prison-street-prison revolving door in Washington State by preparing receptive individuals for reentry.

OUR STORY:

Welcome to The Day After Prison Reentry Services, a community outreach started in 2022 by Edrid Tirado. With a diverse background as a probation officer, correctional instructor, diversion counselor, and more, Ed accumulated 25 years of experience in the judicial system. Through his extensive work, he identified a critical gap in services – the challenge faced by those who need support the most in accessing advantageous resources.

The Day After Prison was established with a singular vision: to offer human-focused reentry support that is easily accessible to those in need. Recognizing the inherent difficulties in transitioning from incarceration to society, and the fact that 95% of individuals incarcerated will release one day, our outreach is committed to helping remove barriers where possible and providing essential guidance during this crucial period.

A NOTE OF GRATITUDE TO THE FOUNDING TEAM:

Every meaningful effort has a beginning, and this one began with a small group of people who believed that individuals coming home from jail or prison deserve more than a list of resources. They deserve a pathway forward, a sense of possibility, and the reminder that they are still part of a community.

Allie brought a deep understanding of human services and, perhaps most importantly, a belief in transformation. Her experience supporting people through barriers and life transitions helped shape the heart of this outreach: that with the right support, people can create—or recreate—a meaningful life they can be proud of.

Shawn brought decades of experience in workforce development, social welfare, and economic mobility. His perspective helped us recognize that successful reentry is not simply about finding services; it is also about creating opportunities for stability, employment, independence, and a future.

Judah helped turn ideas into something people could actually see and use. His experience in administration, business management, graphic design, writing, and branding helped give The Day After Prison its identity and helped transform a concept into an accessible online resource.

Cesar brought his experience working with nonprofit organizations and his commitment to expanding economic opportunities for communities around the world. His perspective reminded us that access, opportunity, and economic empowerment are important parts of helping people build sustainable futures.

Anthony brought a unique combination of experience in higher education and mental health. As a college counselor and retired Air Force mental health counselor, he brought an understanding of the challenges people face while also recognizing the importance of education, personal development, and connection to supportive resources.

And I brought my own experiences from military service, government, human services, and life—along with a simple belief that has stayed with me throughout this work: There but for the grace of God go I. That belief continues to remind me that none of us is completely separate from the struggles of another.

Together, we shared conversations, ideas, questions, experiences, and countless hours trying to figure out how we could make something useful for someone facing the difficult transition home.
