OUR MISSION:
To shrink the prison-street-prison revolving door in Washington State by preparing receptive individuals for reentry.
OUR STORY:
Welcome to The Day After Prison Reentry Services, a nonprofit organization founded in 2022 by Edrid Tirado. With a diverse background as a probation officer, correctional instructor, diversion counselor, and more, Ed accumulated 25 years of experience in the criminal justice system. Through his extensive work, he identified a critical gap in services – the challenge faced by those who need support the most in accessing advantageous resources.
The Day After Prison was established with a singular vision: to offer human-focused reentry support that is easily accessible to those in need. Recognizing the inherent difficulties in transitioning from incarceration to society, and the fact that 95% of individuals incarcerated will release one day, our organization is committed to removing barriers where possible and providing essential assistance during this crucial period.
Since our inception, The Day After Prison has expanded to include three officers and three dedicated board members. Each member of our team shares a deep commitment to the mission of reducing recidivism and fostering opportunities for success among formerly incarcerated individuals.
OUR TEAM:
Allie - Board Member - I have lived in Washington almost all of my life and continue to feel grateful to live in this beautiful, green state. I grew up with immigrant parents that moved to America from Europe when I was two years old and have first-hand experience of the challenges and stress that barriers can create in establishing oneself. Most of my adult life has been spent working in human services supporting people in ways that can potentially help create opportunities for them to make (and/ or re-make) a meaningful life for themselves that they can be proud of. I am here because I know that we all need a little help and support to re-create a life different than what we may have known. I am here because I believe in the possibilities of transformation and change and I want to support this process as much as can.
Ed - President and Founder - I’m originally from Puerto Rico and I’ve lived in Washington State for over 20 years. I served in the Air Force Reserve as a combat stress counselor and retired with 27 years of military service. I’ve also worked for various agencies in local government throughout Washington State and Arizona. When I sit across the table from a formerly incarcerated individual, my usual first thought is: There but for the grace of God go I. In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with family and friends and taking care of animals.
Judah - Secretary - I've spent my professional career in a variety of sectors, from retail to construction and administrative work. My expertise is in business and practice management. Here at The Day After Prison, my role involves operating the overall administration and implementation of our programs, as well as constructing the overall brand identity with the support of the team. My passions involve graphic design, writing and making music.
Shawn - Treasurer, Board Member - I've got 25 year’s experience in the field of workforce development and over 15 years of experience managing social welfare and economic mobility programs for state government agencies. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and learning about self improvement and spirituality and also enjoy physical activities like mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and playing hockey.
